Global Service Resources is hiring an Orthopedic Technician for one of their client locations in Los Angeles, CA. Candidates should have a minimum of six (6) months of experience in a healthcare setting applying, removing, adjusting, or modifying orthopedic devices such as casts, tractions, splints, and strappings. Additional on the job training will be provided. The Orthopedic Technician works under the technical and administrative supervision of a Supervising Orthopedic Technician or a higher-level medical or administrative supervisor. This role supports orthopedic care across inpatient, outpatient, emergency, and surgical settings.
Employment Type: Full-Time (8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Monday–Friday)
Pay Rate:Â $27-$30/hr.Â
Under general supervision, the Orthopedic Technician applies and removes plaster and synthetic casts, assists providers with specialized orthopedic devices, and works with a full range of orthopedic equipment including splints, tractions, strappings, and prosthetic devices. In the absence of supervisory personnel, the technician independently selects appropriate orthopedic equipment based solely on the description of a patient’s injury. Positions may also receive technical oversight from a Senior Orthopedic Technician.
Key Responsibilities
Casting & Orthopedic Device Application
Apply and remove plaster and synthetic casts in collaboration with providers.
Assist in applying specialized orthopedic devices such as Minerva jackets, halo casts, hip spicas, cast braces, and plaster pylons with SACH foot for amputees.
Fabricate, improvise, apply, adjust, and remove orthopedic devices.
Apply casts, tractions, and splints in the OR, Emergency Department, clinics, and inpatient units.
Patient Care & Education
Explain procedures and provide instructions to patients and families regarding cast care, strappings, dressings, orthotic/prosthetic devices, and traction modalities.
Reassure patients during cast removal or modification using cast cutters or similar devices.
Collaborate with nursing and physician staff to ensure timely, high-quality patient care and reduce procedural backlogs.
Clinical Support & Documentation
Review and interpret written provider orders for orthopedic procedures.
Select appropriate orthopedic devices and equipment using provider orders, orthopedic manuals, and standard practices.
Ensure examination rooms are properly stocked with equipment, medical records, and necessary supplies.
Document all orthopedic procedures in the patient’s permanent medical record.
Equipment & Environment Maintenance
Maintain the cast room, orthopedic equipment, and related devices.
Independently determine necessary orthopedic equipment based on patient injury descriptions when supervisory staff are unavailable.
Minimum Training and Experience
Completion of an orthopedic training program from an accredited college or institution
OR
Minimum of six (6) months of experience in a healthcare setting applying, removing, adjusting, or modifying orthopedic devices (casts, tractions, splints, strappings, etc.).
Additional on the job training will be provided.
Desired Qualifications
One year of experience as an Orthopedic Technician
Basic conversational proficiency in Spanish (bilingual preferred)
